ISLAMABAD:
Unhappy with the Islamabad High Court (IHC), PTI has gone to the Supreme Court. They want real help in the cases of ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan, who has been in jail for almost three years.
Salman Akram Raja, PTI’s main leader and a lawyer, asked Chief Justice Yahya Afridi to quickly schedule court cases involving Imran Khan.
Raja told reporters that Chief Justice Afridi promised Imran’s cases would be scheduled soon after Eid. Raja described the meeting as “positive” when speaking to The Express Tribune.
Previously, Imran Khan’s lawyer asked the Supreme Court to order that the PTI leader be moved to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad.
He asked the highest court to let his doctors, family, and lawyers visit him in jail, and to give his medical records to his family.
Similarly, Imran’s sister, Dr. Uzma Khan, also asked the Supreme Court to review the IHC’s decision to not grant those same benefits.
Before Raja met Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, about 100 lawyers from the Insaf Lawyers Forum (ILF) marched on Constitution Avenue. ILF Chief Organiser Intezar Panjutha arranged the protest.
PTI’s lawyers think the protest worked because Chief Justice Afridi later asked Raja to meet.
Reports say PTI might go to the Supreme Court to challenge the IHC’s decision in the 190 million pound case.
Political experts think Imran’s meetings might resume only if he stops criticizing the military while talking to his family in jail.
